Catalina changed Finder, how can I access individual files out of iphone onto my mac? I don't want sync (who uses sync anyway?) Looking for explorer type file managing window. Please help!

The file system of the iPhone has never been accessible from Finder.
What is it you're trying to access / move?
I am pretty sure I was able to select photos out of it. I am trying to select certain videos within "Photos" out of it.
You would be incorrect in that assumption.
You can access the camera roll from the "Image Capture" app or you can import them to Photos. They have never been accessible in Finder.
You are correct, it was "Image Capture". Is it still the case? I am on Linux now, can't look at the moment.
