Replacement debit card unable to be added to Apple Wallet.

I’ve received an updated debit card and my phone will not add it to my wallet. The only difference is a new expiry date and a different code on the back. I’ve removed the old card which has always worked fine, but I can’t get Apple wallet to accept the new one. I’ve spoken at length to my bank and they insist that they’ve sorted everything from their end and it must be an issue with Apple Pay? Has anybody had this problem? It’s driving me mad. Something that should take seconds is taking up a lot of my time I’ve been on the phone to the bank for over an hour trying to fix this and eventually they said it must be an issue with Apple Pay because there’s been so many attempts to add the card. It’s extremely frustrating and if anybody has any ideas how to solve the problem I’d be very grateful.

iPhone XS, iOS 13
