editing photos outside of i photos

At the moment I have all my photos in i photos, mostly raw format. When I want to edit them or

just to take them out, ie: usb memory card, all images in raw format automatically transfer into jpeg.

Is this unusual or just that this program is set up this way? I am now importing directly onto the hard disc of the computer and editing them on dxo photo lab. Any help would be really welcome.

It depends on how you call the external editor from Photos.

  • If you are selecting the photo in Photos and use the command "Image > Edit WIth" the photo will be passed a TIFF file.
  • If you do it the other way round and open the externals editor, then open your Photos Library in the Media Browser, the photo will be passed as a JPEG.
  • Calling a photo editing extension in Photos will pass the file as a jPEG.
  • I am using the External Editors extension in Photo ´s, where I can select, if the photo will be passed as RAW file, a TIFF, or a JPEG.

Once you got yourself "External Editors" from the App Store, you use it in Photos by viewing your photo enlarged and then click "Edit". when I purchased it, it has been a bargain price, just 0.99$. I hope it is not more expensive now.

In the Edit dialog click the three dots ( ... ) in the toolbar and select "External Editors" from your installed extensions:

When External Editors opens, click the drop down menu to select the image format "Source Image RAW".

Then select the application you want to call.

Hello, I am having a confusing problem with dxo photo lab elite 3. When I am editing a photo , the image can

become distorted and change size or even cut in half. If I reduce the image and then increase it corrects itself. Also

on the repair mode, repairs that I have completed will just reappear.

Regarding silver efex pro 2, nik collection, that problem is that the image that i’m working on can just disappear and the

program just closes or it will just block and I have to force quit.

Any assistance will be of help. Is it possible that I have some sort of bug in the logical ? Dxo support has suggested that

I have a video driver issue? Anyone else has this problem?
