Numeric keypad input

Can anyone help me with changing the input on my numeric keypad from a dot to a comma for decimal? Almost all search results I found were either looking for the opposite or their solution didn't work for me. I have an Apple international English keyboard, live in Germany but mostly use English keyboard setting. I have the Region set to Germany, and the Advanced settings using a comma as the decimal (what I want). However, when I use the numeric keypad in Numbers, input on keypad "52.5" gives me a result of "525,00" and input "52.50" gives me "5.250,00". What I need is "52,50". Changing to the German keyboard works, but I don't want to do that bc of all the differences across the rest of the keyboard/special characters. Constantly changing back and forth is also not really a viable option.


Is there any solution retaining the English keyboard but having the numeric keypad dot show up as a comma for decimals?? Please help!

Try Text Substitution.


Apple Menu > System Preferences > Keyboard > Text


Click the + below the two column box,

Click on the first empty cell in the left column and type two periods.

Click on the cell in the same row of the right column and type a comma.


Typing two consecutive periods will now produce a comma in the text…

…or not. :-(


Testing in Numbers shows he substitution occurs in a cell IF

  • the 'number' would correctly present as a number with a comma in that location

(The test was performed in a region where the thousands separator is a comma and the decimal separator is a period.)

  • The text string is immediately followed by a space, then a return.


Even then, the substitution is inconsistent.


Tests in a text box were somewhat more consistent, but as seen below, also occasionally failed.
