locating a serial number on a refurbished ipod classic

Turn on the iPod.

Go to "Settings" --> "About" --> Then you will see a snap shot of the iPod xxx GB Used and XX GB Free.

By clicking the center botton, there is 3 different screens and you should be able to locate the Serial numbers/Model/Version etc.

See Corrupt iPod Classic - Apple Community. The HDD stats might be more interesting information than the serial no., which won't serve any useful purpose given the age of the device.
