I am not quite sure which MacBook Pro you have however I know that you are running Sierra 10.12.6

The most current MacOS update is Catalina 10.15.3 (This is a full MacOS version update)

Click here-->>macOS Catalina is compatible with these computers - Apple Support

and see if your MacBook meets the requirements for Catalina.

You are on this (Was released on on September 20, 2016) --> macOS 10.12 Sierra

Next was this on September 25, 2017--> macOS 10.13 High Sierra

Next was on September 24, 2018--> macOS 10.14 Mojave

Now the latest was released on October 7, 2019 --> macOS 10.15 Catalina

macOS Catalina runs on all standard configuration Macs that support Mojave. 2010–2012 Mac Pros, which could run Mojave only with a GPU upgrade, are no longer supported.[5] Catalina requires 4 GB of memory, an increase over the 2 GB required by Lion through Mojave.[6][7]

i thought the error page would be connected to my question.

below is what my question was referring to::

"If you see "Software update is required to connect to your iOS device" on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

When you connect your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to a Mac with macOS 10.11 or later, you might need to update the software on your Mac in order for it to recognize your iOS device. Learn what to do.

If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch has a newer version of iOS than is supported by your Mac, you may see this alert: "A software update is required to connect to your iOS device. Would you like to download and install this update now?"

so my question, again:

my macbookpro is Sierra 10.12.6. what is the update to be downloaded? is it just a minor update to existing OS or is it a newer version full OS??
