What to do with Power Mac G4 Sawtooth

Hello.

After 9 years, I saw this post.

And I want to share my own experience of using the "old man" in 2020 as a file server.

The 128 gigabyte limit is bypassed in two ways.

1 - software - extremely slow work, so for a file serhttps://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Port-SATA-II-PCI-X-Controller-Card-Apple-PowerMac-G4-G5-OS-X-Bootable-SSD/254460735285

There is also a version for Mac OS 10.5

2 - SATA controllers. I used this method with this controller:

Also, there are versions for 4 SATA ports

I connected the SSD as a system disk through the IDE-SATA adapter, for example, you can take this:

I have a bi-directional SATA-IDE controller, and it is unidirectional, but it doesn’t change the essence - it works and works faster than on HDD

I also have a PCI USB hub installed, to which 2 external HDDs of 250 and 500 gigabytes are connected - in the future they can be replaced with more capacious ones.

I installed the Mac OS Server, but this is not necessary, all the same can be configured in a regular system. This is more for myself - I always wanted a real server at home;)

As a result - for watching movies over the network in 1080p this configuration is enough for me.

Checked on files up to 15 gigabytes in size.

Thanks for attention)
