MacOS corrupted my USB drive

Hello. My USB drive got corrupted when I was copying files to it. I can access the drive with recovery software and other operating systems that support the Apple file systems.

The drives partition map is Master Boot Record and it has one partition with the file system HFS+.

Whenever I connect the drive to MacOS the partition doesn't mount. I can not format it because it somehow set it self to read only. I tried running First Aid on the drive but it does nothing.

The data on the drive isn't important. Also here is the drive info: https://imgur.com/DRmbelG and partition info: https://imgur.com/xVRZN5l.

MacBook Air 11", macOS 10.14

If this drive is only used on a Mac, then you should not use a partition scheme of MBR. It should be GUID. Perhaps, this is behind the corruption.

Drive Preparation - El Capitan or Later

  1. Open Disk Utility in the Utilities' folder.
  2. After Disk Utility loads select the drive (out-dented entry w/type and size info) from the side list.
  3. Click on the Erase button in the Disk Utility toolbar. A panel should drop down.
  4. In the drop down panel set the partition scheme to GUID. Set the Format type to APFS (SSDs only) or Mac OS Extended (Journaled.)
  5. Click on the Apply button and click on the Done button when it is activated.
  6. Quit Disk Utility.
