Hey folks.... trying to help a friend of mine troubleshoot his 20.5” iMac.
Pic 1 is during boot up from internal hard drive.
pic 2 is booting from external hard drive with working OS and with external monitor hooked up.

Have you blown the dust out of the intakes lately?
What temperatures does this App report?
This App can be used to speed up the fans, all my iMacs would be dead without it.
Never ever ever drop fan speeds below the speed that the Mac itself is calling for.

Signs of a failing GPU.
Time to replace the machine, or the GPU if you have the tech knowhow.

That’s the first thing I suggested to my buddy...
im going to use my suction cup kit to take off the front glass and I’m going to give it a good blow out. See what happens
Do NOT blow anything out, use a vacuum to vacuum dust and debris out. However, I think this is a waste as I agree the GPU is failing.
