cURL error 35

I use the curl tool to transfer files to a remote server. The remote server was recently updated and no the curl function no longer works. I get a 35 error, alert protocol version. I am running OS 10.7.5 on a Mac Pro1.1. It is a dual-core Intel Xenon.

Is there a way to update the curl tool for my computer so it is running the latest version?

You’ll need to install your own curl, as you’re far behind what’s typical with TLS with 10.7.

I don’t know if homebrew will work that far back, but yo’ll be loading curl and maybe also,OpenSSL. Which may not build as far back as 10.7.

Or you’ll need to get the remote system to downgrade their network security requirements.

Anything prior to OS X 10.11 is getting dicey for that, whether for cases such as this, or for Safari connections to web sites requiring connection security.

There’s this idea that computers can run old software forever, and that’s not the case for many configurations. Not when we operate in an increasingly interconnected and networked world. We’re all getting dragged forward.
