Hi,
I am trying to reinstall El Capitan on a wiped late 2008 MacBook ("Core 2 Duo" - 2,4Ghz - 4GB RAM).
I have a USB stick correctly formatted with the El Capitan installer, but when I go to Startup disk in recovery mode, the stick doesn't appear in the disk selection window.
I'm at a loss here....anyone savvy?

Thanks for trying to help, but it didn’t work. I'm just ending up in recovery mode without stick showing in startup disk window.
When opening disk tools in recovery, the disk is there, and when running tests on it everything is as it should be. 🤔
The stick is formatted using Terminal exactly according to Apple’s support article. To eliminate any physical disk issues I’ve made one more on a hard drive using Install Disk Creator.
Maybe you can tell me an alternative way to verify the stick/disk?
Then the only conclusion would be that the USB stick is not actually formatted properly to be a startup disc.

If you're sure that that your USB is configured properly as a startup drive, try holding down the Option-C keys when restarting. The boot up will be quite a bit slower than normal.
Does the hard drive that you made with Disk Creator show up as a bootable device?
Well, no...that's kinda the whole problem.
