Deleting “Read only” items in calendar

I am unable to actually delete an item from my calendar, hoping someone can give guidance! I go to the initial date of the recurring item, and no edit link is present. I choose “more,” when I hit the delete option (which is faded vs selectable options) it says “This event is read-only, delete 0 events.” What am I missing?

Hey KDB117,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. I see that you're unable to delete an item from your Calendar app and I'd like to help.

If someone has shared a calendar publicly and you have subscribed to it, it will be set to read-only. If someone has shared a calendar privately, it's their decision whether the calendar is read-only or whether you are allowed to makes changes or delete it.

If this isn't a shared calendar, but one of your own, then something has gone wrong and I would need a lot more information as to what exactly the situation is, including where you are seeing this, which device you're having this issue with and which operating system the device is running.

Cheers!

Thank you for your response, Less! The problem is on my iPhone, using the WeekCal app to manage my own schedule. This read only problem has happened with one repeating event that I didn’t add a completion date upon scheduling. It’s been repeating since 2017. Now there is a rolling option that you can mark complete, when scheduling items. Ideas?
