Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
I have a very old 17" aluminium iMac that boots to Recovery only - slowly ... It offers me the chance to reload El Capitan only but at the end of the load process it tells me the iMac is incompatible!
No other OS is given and I cannot see or access another OS to try. Any advice on how to proceed would be gratefully received.

I actually still have a working Late 2006 iMac packed away in our basement. Although it runs it can't run modern software, can't browse most websites, etc. I suppose I could use it for a night-light.

FWIW, the last 17" iMac was made in Late 2006. Is that what you have? If so it can't run anything newer than OSX 10.7.5 and is long overdue to be retired.
