Problem pairing Apple Watch Series 4 with iPhone 6

I have an Apple Watch Series 4 that has been paired and working fine with my iPhone 6. This had been unpaired and paired with a newer iPhone. Now when I go back to pair it with my iPhone 6, it is telling me that I must upgrade my phone. Based on what I have been reading, it appears that what has happened is that my Watch was updated to Watch OS 6 which is not supported with iPhone 6. My question is how I can move my Watch back to Watch OS 5 which will successfully pair.

I just contacted support and was told that there is no way to downgrade a Watch back to watch OS 5. This unfortunately is very frustrating, resulting in rendering a working combination of Apple Watch and Apple Phone useless without any real warning.

If while paired to the newer iPhone, the Series 4 was upgraded to watchOS 6, it will no longer pair with anything older than an iPhone 6s, which means your iPhone 6 will no longer pair.

You could use the "Contact Support" link at the top of this page, and ask Apple Support if they can downgrade your Apple Watch back to watchOS 5.
