Does the workout tracker recognize skating? Will it track distance in a skate? Currently the Steps tracker on my phone doesn't appear to capture skating, and would like to find something that does.
Is a third party app that connects to the watch the answer?

It will not calculate like you want.
If it were me I'd use indoor or outdoor (if you want GPS) walk/run
There is a skating workout type in the watch workout app,scroll down to the bottom and tap on add workout to see it.
