Under Music>Account Information a msg about 1 item awaiting download won't go away when the 'download now' button is pushed. Under Music>Account>Check for available downloads nothing comes up. Under Music>Account>Family Purchases: You do not have any purchased music available to download.

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. I see that you're seeing a message about an item awaiting for download but you're unable to locate it. I'd be more than happy to assist you with this issue. First, if you haven't already, use these steps to quit the Music app and restart your Mac:
By any chance, do you use more than one iTunes Store account or have used it in the past to make purchases? If yes, try logging in using that account to see if the pending download appears.

I do not recall having a second iTunes store account. I have tried your suggestion and followed the directions in the link you supplied as best I can, (the three blue dots mentioned in item two under the heading "Restart a download on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch" does not appear on my iPhone screen.) I very rarely play music using the phone, so it would be quite unusual if I had ever used it to purchase anything from the iTunes or Music store. Although I followed your kind suggestions the problem persists.
