How to make searchable PDF
I received a bunch of .pdfs as mail attachments, and saved them to my hard drive. But they're not searchable. What's the easiest way for me to save them as searchable .pdfs?

Can you select text in the PDFs in question?
Thanks - I know that .pdfs are normally searchable. For some reason, these aren't. They're not images, they're text. If I open one in Preview, and go into the Search field, it won;'t find anything. I've tried Exporting to PDF, Printing to PDF, and Save as PDF, but it remains unsearchable.
Is there no Save as Searchable PDF anywhere in MacOS?
If not, can anyone recommend a good 3rd party software? (I'd like to avoid Adobe, due to its cost.)
If they are images saved as PDFs they will never be searchable. PDFs normally are searchable and you shouldn't have to do anything other than saving them.
You could try this. It helped me.
