ipod is disabled, connect to itunes. Then itunes says it cannot help because there's a passcode???!?!

My daughter's ipod says "iPod is disabled. connect to iTunes". I have her apple id in itunes but it is saying it cannot communicate with iPod because there's a password. Tells me to answer passcode on iPod but iPod does not give that option. What's a mom to do?!?
