Is it possible to open the messages app in the front of the current window I have open?

Use Command-Tab:

No. But [Hold Down: command + Press: tab], and you could easy switch between the two apps.

Suggest this be an option. You can do so by providing it as feedback.

Use this Link: Feedback - macOS - Apple

1. Select: "Feature Request" for the "Feedback Type"
2. Select: "User Interface" for the "Feedback Area"
3. Proceed from there as necessary.

Don't have the apps opened on full screen mode. If you have any app open on full screen mode (clicking on the green circle so that it opens up and takes up the whole screen rather than being a smaller window) and you try to open up another app, it's going to exit the full screen and go to the other app. I hope I'm wording that right.
