On my husbands 7 Plus and a friends iPhone 11 went they press the time in

the upper left corner or the signal or carrier in the upper right corner they display in the middle of the screen. Where is this setting and how do you turn it on?

Ah, ignore the following. Didn’t see the image part way through...

Swipe down in the upper right corner to display the so-called control center:

I have some customizations added onto that display. See Settings for that.

The above works on any iPad or iPhone running semi-recent versions of software.

Drag down from top center displays your notifications.

There are other gestures available.

Are you sure they are just pressing?

Normally swiping down form the top left corner will bring up notification center which shows the time prominently with notifications under it.

Swiping down from the top right corner on an iPhone 11 will bring down Control Center which does show the carrier and signal a bit larger along with a bunch of other controls.

On an iPhone 7 swiping down from any point at the top will bring down Notification Center.

Control Center is accessed by swiping up from the bottom of the screen.
