PROBLEMS IMPORTING VIDEO: SONY I LINK TO FIREWIRE 800 OR THUNDERBOLT 2

SONY HDR-FX1 CAMCORDER. USE SONY I LINK TO FIREWIRE 800 CABLE OR SAME CABLE WITH A FIREWIRE 800 TO THUNDERBOLT 2 CABLE TO CAPTURE VIDEO. LAST DID THIS IN MARCH 2019 AND WAS PLUG AND PLAY PER USUAL. NOW ON TWO COMPUTERS RUNNING MAC OS MOJAVE VERSION 10.14.6 AND FINAL CUT PRO X VERSION 10.4.8 WHEN I CONNECT TO THE APPLE MAC MINI (LATE 2012) VIA FIREWIRE 800 OR FIREWIRE TO THUNDERBOLT 2 OR APPLE MACBOOK AIR (11-INCH, EARLY 2014) VIA FIREWIRE TO THUNDERBOLT 2 AND TRY TO IMPORT THE COMPUTERS SEE THE CAMERA AS AN OPTION TO IMPORT FROM IN FINAL CUT PRO X SCREEN BUT THE CONTROLS (PLAY, REWIND, ETC) FOR THE CAMERA IN THE IMPORT WINDOW DO NOT CONTROL THE CAMERA AND THE IMPORT BUTTON DOES NOT START THE CAMERA. WHEN I PRESS PLAY ON THE CAMERA ITSELF I SEE VIDEO IN THE CAMERA VIEWFINDER BUT NOT ON THE IMPORT SCREEN ON THE COMPUTERS. ON THE MACBOOK AIR I GOT A MESSAGE:

A new network interface has been detected.

The "Thunderbolt FireWire" network interface has not been set up. To set up this interface, use Network Preferences.

ON THE MAC MINI USING THE THUNDERBOLT CONNECTOR THIS SCREEN DID NOT POP UP.

  1. SUGGESTIONS TO MAKE THE SOFTWARE WORK AGAIN TO IMPORT WITH THIS SET UP.
  2. I HAVE NEW MAC MINIS AND A NEW MACBOOK AIR RUNNING THE MOST CURRENT CATALINA AND FINAL CUT PRO X THAT I WOULD PREFER TO USE. ARE THERE CONNECTORS/ADAPTERS FROM SONY I LINK TO THUNDERBOLT 3 (USB-C) TO ACCOMPLISH THIS?

Mac mini, macOS 10.14

I can say that the later versions of FCP X can capture video over FireWire/Thunderbolt ports.

I have recenlty captured HDV and DV without issues.

There will most likely be something in your setup configuration.

First thing to check is that the camera is outputting an HDV signal if the footage is HDV.

Output in DV for DV footage.

HDV cameras are actually seen by NLEs as two different cameras.

Settings are important.

Another thing to check is; System Settings of the Mac, can the FireWire on the Mac recogonize the camera in it's settings.

If not, troubleshoot why not.

Thank you for your response. On both computers in Quicktime New Movie Recording it shows a yellow alert triangle with the pop up explanation "Can not use HDV-VCR. Stop any other actions using the HDV-VCR and try again."

Are there any connectors/adapters to connect the Sony iLink to a USB-C?

Is there a way to go back to a prior version of Final Cut Pro X or Mojave since it worked a year ago?
