The iMac is up to date as is the epson software. The printer continues to refuse to access cassette1(A5) and always defaults to cassette 2(A4). I have clicked to use epson generic features and they all come up-despite that the Mac always defaults to A4. you can choose the cassette 1 but it is always ignored.
Please can anyone help?

Then jump down to pages 111-117 and see how to change the default paper cassette setting.
Also note: that different App's can and should have difference Default settings. For example: Photos will and should have difference Default settings than Pages or Office.

FWIW we have a slightly different Epson ET model and really like it.
Try resetting the NVRAM and then restarting in Safe Mode and then re-try. If that fails, try resetting the Printing System and trying over. The following links will help you.

Hmm... an Epson FAQ search for "printer defaults to A4" really didn't turn up much in the way of a firm solution.

At this point, I think that I would try Restore Default Settings, using All Except Network Settings.

Then if that doesn't help, I would get in touch with Epson Support and ask for a Mac support specialist.
Try loading the US Letter paper size that you want to normally print from in cassette 2 or optionally in the rear paper feeder and then loading the odd sized paper in cassette 1.

Do you see a Feed from: or cassette selection section on the Mac's printer dialog panel when trying to print?
What happens when you try and print from a different App's like Preview, Safari, Pages, Photos, etc..?
What happens when you try to select cassette 1 using the printers built-in screen?
If you can not select cassette 1, then I would suspect that the cassette is not loaded or inserted properly.
If you can select cassette 1 in some cases, then I would suspect that you need to adjust the Defaults for the different App's or perhaps reverse the paper size in the 1 & 2 cassettes.
I can select screen on the printer and set cassette paper/size OK. Cassette seems to be in alright, sort of clicks into place and the paper is firmly in.
The only time I can select cassette 1 or anything else is when I click to use generic printer features including automatic cassette selection.

It's not that I don’t value your comments, I do. It's just that the printer is working, all the print features are showing but it won’t select cassette 1.
When I deselect the printer features it still works fine but won’t select cassette 1.
It seems stuck in default A4 mode!

Its all there but something is blocking the “ access” to those epson instructions!
Prints a brilliant A4 picture but.....
just tried setting up a pre set with all the epson printer features and selected cassette 1and it went straight to cassette2 !

Thanks for your reply. I have just double checked those things and they seem fine. The printer works fine but just won’t select cassette 1 when I need it too.

Yeah' if I was to complain about anything, it would be the size of the built-in-display and the on-screen navigation.
