Disk appeared in Disk Utility

I ran disk utility and a new disk appeared that I have never seen before...


Macintosh HD - Data.


So I now have two disk on my MacBook Pro:

Macintosh HD - used: 11 GB, other volumes: 191.92 GB. Free: 297 GB

Macintosh HD Data - used: 190 GB, other volumes: 12.8GB, free: 297 GB


looks like the mirror image of each other.

That is a new security feature in Catalina. It is supposed to be there. The Mac HD volume contains the OS, system, etc and is read only. The Data volume contains your User folder, etc. and is read/write. They are not separate partitions, but two volumes on one disk.
