S/MIME email encryption...

Under the advanced setting in iCloud email, why is the option to used S/MIME encryption for an iCloud email account NOT available? Hence, "Sign" & "Encrypt by Default" tabs are blacken out, unable to be toggled? As such, in the tile where the toggle switch is found, under the "CERTIFICATES" line it indicates that "No valid certificates found". Does Apple provide the certificate so this feature can be used? Or, where can (or to whom can) a trusted certificate be obtained?

Hello jdc@22,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're having trouble with S/MIME email encryption. I'd be happy to share information that may help.

Take a look at the information here: Use S/MIME to send encrypted messages in an Exchange environment in iOS.

Also, be sure your device is fully updated: Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. You'll want to have a current back up prior to updating.

Take care.
