Apple Watch pairing update loop

I was recently gifted an Apple Watch series 3. As I am setting it up, I go to pair it to my iPhone XR and it says it needs to update to finish pairing. After I select to update, it goes to unpair the watch and starts all over again at the beginning to pair the watch. It has been fully charged and so has my phone and my phone’s iOS is up to date. I have tried power cycling both the phone and the watch with no change. Any idea what is up???

I hope someone can help us out! I’d really hate to have to go to the Apple store to have a genius look at it (the closest one to me is over an hour away). Last time I had to go there, I sat for over 2 hours when I had an appointment during the Christmas rush just to have them tell me that my MacBook hard-drive had crashed and they couldn’t do anything about it and to take it to a repair shop.

I really dislike people that don’t even try to understand what the problem is, just the fact that they’re typing BS makes them thing they’re smart.

fact: the watch won’t pair with anything or anyone for that matter unless it’s on 6.1

fact: the phone won’t par with the phone unless the watch is on 6.1

PERIOD

we can not pair our watch’s if they’re not on 6.1 and in order for the phone to pair with the watch they need to be on 6.1

how hard is this to understand???

If you buy a watch from somebody and they haven't removed the watch from their icloud account then the watch won't pair whatever you try and do mom2fivekids was given this watch as a gift from someone,do you understand this?.
