Apple Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack stopped working - not compatible with iphone XR

I purchased the Apple Lightning to 3.5 mm Headphone Jack a while back and it has been working with my iphone XR for over a year. Just recently it stopped working with my iphone XR. I get "This accessory is not supported by this iPhone" when I connect to it to my phone. I have the Apple original lightning adapter.

My iphone is running 13.3.1 version of the OS.
