what airpods to use with apple watxh

Can I use any air pod brands designed for my series 5 watch or do I need to use Apple air pods only

I have paired 4 different Bluetooth headphone brands to my Apple Watch. The hardest part is putting the Bluetooth headphones into "Discovery" mode. Finding the instructions for your Bluetooth headphones is the hardest part.

I was concerned because a friend told me I had to use the Apple air pods which are much more expensive.
