Ipad 2 email app

HElp Apple! looks like latest software updates from Apple have made the email app unresponsive on older iPads. I have an IPad 2 and the mail app stopped working. So...I thought I would just delete it and re-install from App Store. Wrong-Bongo! Now the app won't even open (install) at all.
