MacBook Pro 15.4 late2013 cannot find built in camera after update to 10.15.3:

The error code indicates a hardware failure in the camera. Make an appointment at the Apple Genius Bar for service. If you need to find an Apple Store - Find a Store - Apple. Also, see How to find your nearest Apple Authorized Service Provider (AASP) or Distributor (AAD).

Since most of us with similar or identical machines continue to use our cameras, it seems unlikely that this was caused by the update alone.

What did you actually do to troubleshoot the issue?

Maybe you fell for that nasty "cleanmymac", which has been known to cause this and all sorts of other problems?

Did you try doing a clean install on a separate drive, to see if the camera is working?

I can assure you before I got to this part of the journey to fix my MBP camera, I have actually tried to fix it via different things including a clean install. And like Xiaogang1983, I have not ever used "cleanmymac". I only use my MBP for emails and MS office (work) items. Nothing dodgy is on it.

Same problem here.

MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Late 2013)

Mojave version 10.14.6

Performed NVM Reset and SMC Reset

Wiped the drive and did a clean install of the OS

Booted into Safe Mode

However, built-In camera still does not appear in System Report ("No video capture devices were found.")

Performed hardware diagnostics and found one error.

"There may be an issue with the camera"

I've found no fix for this issue.

Does the camera even appear in System Information?

There have been similar threads, but with different problems. For some people, System Information reported "no camera". For others, the camera is there, and the green light even turns on, but applications can't capture video from it.

Please clarify which is the case for you.

Well, I could not find it, but in doing a search I came across with something that may help.

Do you have "Screen Time" activated in System Preferences? If so, you may try checking if the camera is disallowed in there; or simply turn Screen Time OFF.

Yes is the same problem I am having. Seems like a firmware update is needed ... not trip to the Apple store to wait weeks for a bill to fix the problem

I am having the same issue. Did you ever get a firmware update or another solution to the problem?

Nothing. The update broke the camera but I am out of support so nothing I can do except hope that I can get help online.

There was a thread where people with the same symptoms seem to have been able to overcome them by replacing some file with a copy from an earlier OS. Not something to do lightly, but it may work.
