AirDrop not working

Im trying to use my AirDrop to airdrop something from my Iphone 11 pro to my macbook pro 2012, I read all the ins and out and nothing answers what going on. so I go to finder, open AirDrop it says at the bottom "Airdrop lets you share instantly with people nearby. To share with someone using a Mac, ask them to go to airdop in the finder" Im trying to use my Iphone, and on the mac its not giving me any options to make my MacBook Pro discoverable. How can I fix this?
