Why am I getting Yahoo pop-ups on new iMac?
I just set up my new iMac and I'm getting unwanted Yahoo messages. Is this a feature or do I have a virus/malware?
iMac 21.5", macOS 10.14

What web browser are you using?
If you are using Safari
go to Safari on the menu bar and select Preferences... click on the Search tab and choose a different Search engine.

Yeah' something was amiss with the ASC cookie crumbs yesterday and it may carried over into your Chrome web site data. Check to see if clearing out the apple.com web site data in your Chrome browser fixes the problem.
I ran Malwarebytes before posting and it said my computer was clean. The browser I use is Safari. I found
a reference (by googling) to freeware which includes Yahoo in a bundle, but all my apps were downloaded from the Apple App Store. My Mac was purchased new last week from an Apple Store. I just set it up this past Thursday. I'm wondering if the News or Stocks apps are somehow connected with Yahoo. I can't find Yahoo in my apps or in my library.
I did go to Safari Preferences and my chosen search engine is google. When I clicked on "manage websites", google was there but not yahoo. The other sites list were legitimate sites I subscribe to: New York Times, Apple, IMDB. I have not opened any suspicious emails since I set up the computer.
You have malware on your Mac. Download and run Malwarebytes.
Can't seem to post webloc for Malwarebytes. Just Google for site.
Does https://www.malwarebytes.com/mac/ work?
That's it. Thank you. Can't post from Chrome, I have to go to Safari.
Hopefully all is clear now.
Thanks...........
I answered my question, I think. The Stocks app included with OS Catalina is a Yahoo app.
And the Notification preference was turned on, by default, for Stocks. I'm going through all of my default settings now.
Whew, good work, thanks for the report. :)
Thank you all for your help! I hate default settings in updates!
Yeah, I don't think they used to mess with them at all.
