if not, is the normal applecare protection available to Canadian residents in installments instead of a one time payment?

It's an insurance plan really. Not sure why they don't have it in Canada other than they have opted not to.
My understanding is that expensive smart phone insurance in Canada is hard to find, period. The carriers and most insurance companies don’t seem to want to insure such devices. Sometimes home owners insurance can add a rider to cover mobile electronics though. So presumably, nobody is interested in partnering with Apple for loss and theft coverage?
Apple’s USA partner, Asurion, of course is not licensed to sell insurance in Canada or anywhere but the USA.
