Apple won't accept my payment all the time

I cannot add my debit card to apple wallet so I cannot purchase more iCloud storage. I hadn't realized my issue because it has always accepted that debit card as payment method when I make app or in-app purchases. Why is this different? I just need to increase/upgrade my iCloud storage with my debit card not add it to my wallet.

When you upgrade your iCloud storage plan, the payment method that you have on file for your Apple ID is what would be charged for the subscription. This is different from the payment methods you have under Settings > Wallet & Apple Pay. Certain countries or regions may not accept debit cards as a form of payment for your Apple ID.


I suggest first ensuring that upgrading to a larger iCloud storage plan is supported in your country or region:

Just to ensure that we're on the same page, I would like to clarify a few things. When you make a purchase in the iTunes Store or App Store, or Buy additional app features with in-app purchases and subscriptions billed through Apple, the payment method that is billed is what is listed here:


Change, add, or remove Apple ID payment methods - Apple Support


"How to change your payment method on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Open the Settings app. 
  2. Tap your name, then tap iTunes & App Store.*
  3. Tap your Apple ID (which is usually your email address), then tap View Apple ID. You might be asked to sign in.
  4. Tap Manage Payments. (If you're using an older version of iOS, tap Payment Information.) Then add, update, reorder, or remove your payment methods:"


When you buy more iCloud storage, the payment method added following the above steps is what's charged for the subscription. The types of purchases and subscriptions outlined above are not billed to cards you have on file for Wallet (How to use Wallet on your iPhone, iPod touch, and Apple Watch - Apple Support). That being said, it is possible to add the same card to both Wallet and as your Apple ID payment method if it's supported. Cards that you add to Wallet & Apple Pay can then be used to make the type of purchases outlined in the resource below:

my FI isn’t listed in the participating in Apple Pay so I cannot add it to my wallet. But that isn’t what I’m trying to do.


in the past, I’ve paid with this debit card to purchase apps and in-app purchases. I am also able to pay by that particular card with I -app subscriptions.


The payment issue I am having is specifically when upgrading iCloud storage. Apparently iCloud storage has to use whatever is saved in my wallet.


Again, my FI doesn’t participate so I cannot add. (See how circular this all is?)


why can I purchase apps with this card but not purchase iCloud storage?
