time.apple.com doesn't match www.time.gov

Mac OS 10.15.2 MacBook Pro time automatic (time.apple.com) is 2 and half minutes faster than www.time.gov My iPhone XS and iPad Mini 4 both agree with www.time.gov. Evidently time.apple.com has a glitch.

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.15

Yes. Those are the built in options. You have to type time.nist.gov into the field. However, it seems you're good to go.

FWIW, I'm a bit OCD about time and although my iPads are correct, my Macs are slightly off unless I set them to time.nist.gov. If I just change one, they announce the time out of sync. They're never more than a second or two off however. Never remotely close to two and a half minutes.

Anyway, glad it's resolved.

Hello Murph Sewall.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

If I'm understanding correctly, the time on your MacBook Pro is not as accurate as your other Apple devices. I will be glad to assist.

I would recommend resetting the NVRAM to see if that helps:

Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac

Cheers.

However, I hardly ever restart and don't think I've done a complete shutdown in several years. So, I did a complete shutdown and a cold restart. Clock seems fine. So, perhaps a wee corruption in the OS in RAM caused the time server to fail to reset the clock?

A plain old restart seemed sufficient. I sometimes go weeks without restarting. Usually, I restart because the OS gets updated or some weird thing happens (such as the OS tells me there is no Wi-Fi hardware). I've used Macs since OS 6 (6 not 10.6). Over the years, the OS has become more and more stable. The "instant on" copy in RAM suffers even minor corruption less and less often. Hence, I find shutting down a waste of time.
