Can't Authenticate Google Mail via Safari

I changed my gmail password and the mail app prompted me to login with my new credentials. I chose to do so, but it will tell me from Internet Accounts that "Google requires completing authentication in Safari" and if I click "Open Safari" nothing happens.

I have tried rebooting, launching safari and try to authenticate, I have tried creating a new google account, I have removed the google account and tried to re-login but whichever way, safari will not launch to complete the authentication process

Please, I need help to add my mail back as I use my gmail as my business email. Thanks

Hi uyi_eghas,

Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities. I understand you are unable to add your Gmail account back to Mail on your Mac.

Let’s ensure your Mac has applied all updates for your installed version of macOS. Updating your installed apps and operating system are great steps to take, to ensure everything is functioning correctly.

You’ll want to check for the same problem after the updates have completed.

Cheers!
