What do you mean, that is sent the text via email, and not your phone number? It sounds like your iMessage did not activate correctly. Go to Settings>Messages>iMessage, is there an error message there? If you go to Send & Receive, does it show a checkmark by your phone number and name?
It says "waiting for activation" but it does have a check mark next to my apple ID

Thank you ... I'm going to give it 24 hours ... I tried turning it off and turning it back on ... still same message!!! I appreciate your help so much!!!!!!
You're welcome. Just remember, that turning it off and back on starts the 24 hours over again in case Apple asks if you need to call them.
