Phone does go to screen saver after a period of time
After a period of non use, my phone used to go to a screen saver. It no longer does that. What has changed:

There is not and never has been a "screen saver" on the iPhone.
After a period of inactivity specified in Settings>Display & Brightness>Auto-Lock, the phone will go into standby and the screen will go dark.
