Tips: Minimise MacBook's cycle count and prolong battery life

I have a macbook pro 2018 15". I failed to find a proper solution or guide on the internet regarding how to properly prolong the macbook battery and minimise it's charge cycles.

Let's say for someone like me who is a developer and has to use the macbook all day, is it okay to keep it plugged in all the time? Should we observe some kinda practise to keep the cycle counts low. Dear Apple experts please guide.

MacBook Pro 15”, macOS 10.15

I'm a developer and my 2014 MacBookPro is plugged in all the time, except when I'm traveling and don't have power. But mainly it is plugged in. My current cycle count is 381. My full charge capacity is 7009 out of a designed max of 8440. I guess that means I'm at 83% health. Not bad for a six year-old machine that's been beat half to death.

Keeping your Mac plugged into the mains will reduce the cycle count— you can not over charge your Mac.

There is no harm.

The important part is not running it dead because one complete 100percent-to-0percent is 1 cycle, plus "completely dead" is not good. If you ever end up doing that, do not be surprised if it takes up to 30 minutes after plug in to even show life , because Lithium ion can do that.

If you keep your laptop plugged in most of the time I would recommend once in a while running the laptop on just the battery so the battery gets a little exercise. I would suggest doing this at least once a month because it can easily become a habit by always running the laptop on battery on the 1st day of each month.

Also to add to @steve359's comment about issues with letting the battery become completely discharged: If the battery is left completely discharged for any length of time it will likely cause internal damage to the battery which may lead to a premature failure.
