Power button ends calls

Hello, I'm a new iPhone user and recently purchased a iPhone 11. I'm having difficulty because I'm used to being able to lock the screen while on a phone call by hitting the side button. Now if I do that it ends the call resulting in me hanging up on people. I’ve never had an iPhone before I’ve had all the Samsungs so this is a habit that I have I was wondering if there’s anyway to disable this. I am very aware that it’s not in settings

iPhone 11, iOS 13

That is normal actions if you are on a call, not using a headset. It is not necessary to lock the phone while on a call, the screen will disable when you put the phone up to your ear. The iPhone works differently than you previous Samsungs. There is no setting to disable this. If you are using headphones or a Bluetooth headset, this will not occur.

That is odd. How long do you hold down the side button?

I have an i8+ and 99.9% of my calls are made either thru an in-ear handsfree bud or thru the car's integrated handsfree. If I dial thru the phone's screen, as soon as the call is raised and ringing starts, I click on the side (aka the Sleep button), the screen goes off and the call proceeds unhindered.

Edit: just tried without any handsfree. As soon as ringing started, clicked on the side button, screen went dark but the call continued without problems.

Beg to differ. Just tried on the i8+. Tapping on Sleep did lock the screen but did not end the call. Only caveat is that the phone was in Speaker Mode before tapping, that might have a bearing. Also, I did say "tap", a single click. If you hold it down for dear life, it will shut everything down indeed.

Oh, and the official designation of the side button as per the User Manual is the "Sleep/Wake Button".

OP, you may want to take a look at the manual, as found here: https://support.apple.com/en_US/manuals/iphone

Can read it online or download it to the Books app.

Yes, the fact that it was on Speaker Mode makes a difference. Try it again without headphones or speaker phone.

Yes, without headphones, the power button will end the call. However, if you're not using a headphones and you bring the phone to your ear, the proximity sensor should lock the screen. Is that not happening? Samsung phones proximity sensor works the same way.

ETA: Once again, I'm too slow!
