Unread Apple Mail count

For a week or so my iMac is showing a variable unread mail count against the Trash in the LH pane, but not in the Dock, and no unread mail is visible in the main window. The invisible emails are plain as daylight on iPad and iPhone, and also in Gmail in Chrome or Safari.

It is starting to annoy me!

Any ideas, Colin

Inaccurate indication of unread emails in iMac Mail app When opening the Mail app on my iMac, numerous folders are highlighted and numbered as containing unread emails. This is inaccurate and the highlight/numbers disappear upon clicking any folder. Very annoying, but so far it hasn't affected the functioning of my Mail app.

All mailboxes in mac mail not showing any mal Using Monterey 12.7.1 on Apple M1 mini and the "all inboxes" emails disappeared literally in front of me. I restarted mail. I did nothing new. Any help appreciated. Thank you.

You can try re building the inbox

All IMAP mail is already saved and backed up on the server—

You are just rebuilding locally the email client in an effort to sort your anomaly. No harm

I assume that as my mail is hosted as Gmail I can't do any damage in Apple Mail itself so don't need any additional backup?
