iPad typing numbers show up
I want to type type and t6pe shows up. Happens with other letters as well.

That has to do with Key Flicks. If you are swiping the Y key, you notice the 6 on top of it? If you are not tapping down straight, it can type the number. All of the keys that have a grey letter or number character above them will do that. You can turn off Key Flicks in Settings to remove those additional characters. Go to Settings>General>Keyboards>Enable Key Flicks and turn that Off.

That solved the problem as you can tell from the no numbers written response. Thanks for your knowledge. I have been an Apple guy since 1984 ( I still have my MAC 512k) and appreciate the Apple family.
You're welcome. Enjoy your device. I must admit that it can be helpful if you don't want to move back and forth from the letter screen to the number screen, but if you are trying to type really fast, it can be a pain, as you so easily discovered.
