Why doesn’t any of my messages pop up and I don’t have do not disturb mode on

Perhaps Notifications are turned off for iMessage. Check out this article and then check to see your Notification settings for iMessage: https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/change-notification-settings-iph7c3d96bab/ios
