I don’t have any bars on on my new iPad.

Hi. This is my new large iPad which I’ve had for two days now. Just tried to send a message but it won’t go through, as it normally does. Then I’ve just noticed that there are no bars saying that I have reception. My phone is right here with me as well and it does have bars. Anyone have any ideas as to what I can do? I’m guessing something in the settings is not right.

If you don’t have the cellular data entry in Settings as shown below and circled in red, then it would appear this iPad is an iPad model with Wi-Fi only and no cellular, or this iPad is malfunctioning.


Does your iPad have a SIM slot on the edge? A cellular model will have a slot, and a Wi-Fi model won’t.


If you look in Settings > General > About, what’s the Model Number shown, and below the model name on the same display, is there a section listing cellular-related information such as the IMEI?

If you’ve set up cellular carrier service, and have cellular access enabled, then check first with your cellular carrier.


To check whether access is enabled, swipe down from the edge of the upper right corner to get the controls. Long-press on the square with the communications icons. Do you see cellular enabled? If not, press on the cellular button.


In Settings > Cellular, you should see “on”, a d if you view the settings you should see your selected carrier.
