Best Thunderbolt 3 hubs for 2018 MacBook Pro (with touchbar)?

I've read a number of postings on the web that certain brands/types of Thunderbolt hubs can cause issues for MacBook Pro (spontaneous shutdown/restart after sleep, kernel panic, inconsistent performance of peripherals, etc).

I intend to get an external Thunderbolt 3 SSD drive and plug that into a hub. Has anyone found a Thunderbolt 3 hub for their MacBook Pro that doesn't cause all sorts of issues? Are there key specs I should be looking for to lessen the possibility of problems?
