macOS Sierra (10.12.6) Download

Hoping someone can help! We're in desperate need of a macOS Sierra install app download. All the download links we've searched and tried end up either damaged or we get the /Volumes/MyVolume is not a valid volume mount point error when we try to create a bootable install using the usual string:

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app

Even the download from the Apple App Store is damaged:

https://geo.itunes.apple.com/us/app/macos-sierra/id1127487414?mt=12

(don't try this link in Mojave. Really bad!)

Anyone got a working version by chance?

The sierra download that is available from Apple was updated with new certificates in October 2019.

How to upgrade to macOS Sierra - Apple Support

You can see from Section 4 that it now downloads a file called InstallOS.dmg which when opened

becomes InstallOS.pkg. opening the .pkg will open an installation screen that converts the .pkg to

Install macOS Sierra.app located in the Applications folder.

Using the Install app within the Applications folder and the createinstallmedia command in Terminal will come up with the error Volumes/MyVolume is not a valid mount point. If one were to change the name of the USB and reflect that in the command line instruction it would come up with the same error

Volumes/<USB name> is not a valid mount point. Apple have been informed about this on numerous occasions, many, many people have been reporting this error in this community, and yet four months down the line nothing has been done about it.

Try it out.

I used VikingOSX's link for the 10.12.6.dmg went through the stages to get the Install macOS Sierra.app

With everything in place, install app in Applications, USB formatted correctly and named MyVolume

Terminal still came up with the error Volumes/MyVolume is not a valid volume mount point. This was done

on a Mac running macOS Sierra. So I am perplexed you managed to get the bootable installer made.

I can make bootable USB installers for all OS's El Capitan, High Sierra, Mojave and Catalina but every time I download Sierra and try the createinstallmedia command I get the mount point error. Been going on for four months now.

So are you absolutely certain you managed to create a bootable installer for Sierra. Can you do it again and show me the output from Terminal.

What I meant to post before the hosting software truncated it.

That /Volumes/MyVolume is a placeholder name in the instructions for the actual name of your mounted USB stick name on your Desktop (e.g. /Volumes/Untitled, /Volumes/myusbname, etc.), whatever it is named.

If your Mac can run Sierra, it can run High Sierra (10.13.6), and you will have a few more months of Apple Security and browser updates before this Fall's release of macOS.next. The Sierra operating system is no longer receiving Security and browser updates from Apple, and also falls outside of Microsoft's minimum operating system for installation of Office 365/Office 2019 for Mac.

Here is the Mac App Store to macOS High Sierra. And a link to the Sierra 10.12.6 dmg installer.

Sure thing! We downloaded the .dmg from the link provided by @VikingOSX. Installed it. Then created the USB booter using the command line:

sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/MyVolume --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Sierra.app

Created the USB Sierra booter successfully with no valid mount point error. (not sure if this matters but we initially tried to create the booter in Mojave. We then moved to a Sierra machine with this download, it worked. haven't had a chance to try it again in Mojave but will just for my own curiosity.)

We then booted the iMac into the newly created macOS USB Sierra booter using the OPTION key. When we got to the Utilities window to install the macOS, we received the application is damaged error.

@EauRouge YES! But it wasn't until I moved to a Sierra machine. Once I installed the .dmg from the download link provided by @VikingOSX on this Sierra machine, I was able to create the USB booter. I was getting that same valid mount point error on my machine (Mojave 10.14.6) and my test box which is in High Sierra (10.13.6). But when we tried to actually install it, and use the newly created booter, we got that application is damaged error. Thoughts?
