I went into my phone settings and seen an unknown number as a secondary trusted number. I also checked active devices and a different iPhone attached to this unknown number was active!!! How did this happen???

Then you should log into your Apple ID account and remove that specific phone number from the list of trusted numbers.
After that, change your Apple ID password, just to be sure.

I contacted Apple support and was told they would’ve changed the trusted device through the Apple ID website in order to bypass me getting a notification for the authentication. So it seems the Apple ID website is very low security.
Nope no one should have access to it. I called this strange phone number and could vaguely understand the name on the voicemail and it’s no one I recognize, though the number is local to where I live. Only my old phones would have my Apple ID registered but I’m in possession of all of them.
Yep for sure. I’ve done all of that and changed all other social media accounts that have had this unknown changed to the main contact. My concern is how did this happen? I have 2 factor authentication and this somehow still happened.
I just logged into my Apple ID account on my computer, to check, if you can see, when you set up the trusted numbers.
The Two-Factor-Code came right up on my phone, as soon as I had submitted the Apple ID password. So in that case, the security seems to be the same, as if you log in from one of your other devices.
