So frustrating!!! Copy/Cut/Paste keyboard shortcut not working after keyboard language is changed. Any fix?

On mac (Catalina) when I change fonts to Mongolian from English in order to work on mongolian text, the keyboard shortcuts Cmd+C, V, X stops working, which is so frustrating after half a year to migrating to mac from pc. My work requires english text as well as mongolian texts in the same document.

Perhaps the macbook does not recognize those keys once the language is changed. Any old, trashy pc does it without any problem. Why mighty macbook can't do this simple thing?

I am not sure if it is related with Mongolian fonts only which is Cyrillic or all non english fonts that cause this. Any fix? This problem is so taxing from every hour of work.

Your problem is not connected to "fonts" but to the keyboard/input source. Non-Latin input sources sometimes have a different setup in the Cmd Level. It's too late tonight for me to check Mongolian, but you might have a look yourself using the Keyboard Viewer app

I will look at it tomorrow.

I've looked at the Apple Mongolian keyboard (which is new in Catalina), and it seems it was not made correctly, so command shortcuts don't work right. To ask Apple to fix this, go to

http://www.apple.com/feedback

In the meantime, try the keyboard mentioned in the link I gave earlier, which says specifically that it has these shortcuts

3 post in sequest. Post 1.

Thank you Tom very much.

  1. I downloaded the keyboard from page: http://mongoliankeyboardformac.blogspot.com/, the link being under title: Mongolian Keyboard Layout with Copy-Paste for Mac Apple
  2. renamed my catalina default Mongolian keyboard 3 files:
  3. -install.rtf

-Mongolian.icns

-Mongolian.keylayout

4.pasted 2 files downloaded from above webpage, to the recommended folder.

5.restarted macbook.

Now I got TWO Mongolian keyboards though I thought I'd have one just installed. Anyway. One with icon MO (Catalina default), one with Mongolian flag (downloaded from above link, hereafter named FLAG version.)

FLAG version:

Pro: Copy, cut, paste shortcut WORKS!!! It looks like I had this keyboard before Catalina, during Mojave (?, if I remember correctly).

Con: The problem is the top second row is arranged differently than windows pc notebooks. As Mongolian has 35 letters vs english 26, dot and comma never had room in keyboard like for english/latin based type writers for any notebook mac and pc. And these got to be relegated to numbers section (top second row). While typing mongolian text, every time you need to type dot or comma, you are required to click with shift+6, shift +8. No sentence goes without dots or commas. To type correctly you gotta keep pounding Shift, shift, shift. You are now in stone age speed.

Or if you type like on any other computer, your mongolian sentences end up with numbers inserted in sentences and between sentences like unwanted lice. Whole paragraphs got to be cleaned.

Thank you for reply. Just checked the Keyboard Viewer app. After changing keyboard language to Mongolian, then copy, cut, paste shortcuts show these buttons being clicked: Cmd +Ч, Ё, С not Cmd+ X,C,V. Control+ behaves the same. What I know from pc is if Control button is clicked for shortcut actions cyrillic or whatever language don't act allowing the desired action to work.

MO: Catalina default

Pro: typing is smooth. This

is big improvement. Perhaps people asked for this. pc notebook users moving to

macs won't get any barrier. No culture shock in this regard.

Con: copy, paste, cut

shortcuts do NOT work while typing Mongolian text, in any software: Word,

Excel, Page., Numbers. Japanese yen sign is included. But I don't care as most

people don't use it here. When shortcuts don't work, it *****.

Comparison of these two:

So If I now use FLAG version suggested by Tom, (which I will do) I'll need to install some other apps to rearrange the top second row keys. Whoever made this keyboard, if he just swaps what appears with Shift and without, this keyboard will be a lot better. If it has the same layout exactly as pc, then best. Simply because of this, many people are searching for this, asking others in forums venting their frustrations among Mongolian mac users. Migrating to mac from pc has been tough even after 5 months.

The above 2 keyboards have solved 1 issue each and have 1 problem each which is solved by the other.

Now on to my search to change keyboard layout.

Grueling.

I deleted the catalina default Mongolian keyboard. Looks like the downloaded keyboard is not without problems. In order to shift to this I need to click by my mouse on its icon in menu bar. No shortcut works to move between this and english keyboard. No caps lock, no cmd+space, whatever. So I am locked with this keyboard unless I use mouse. In order to get copy/cut/paste shortcut, I got to lose shortcut between english and mongolian.

When I added back default Mongolian keyboard back again, moving between english and mongolian default catalina keyboard goes smoothly by shortcuts as if Catalina recognizes its default Mongolian keyboard. But this one makes copy/paste shortcuts fail. And the downloaded mongolian keyboard is an island on its own, in this case.

Problem not solved.

Hi Tom Gewecke,

IT WORKS!!! Amazing. In the beginning it was puzzling as after pasting the keyboard to the Keyboard layouts folder, it did not have any effect. So I deleted the installed Mongolian keyboards. Pasted the the bundle again. Added Mongolian keyboard again. Restarted computer several times here and there.

This is going to save so much time for so many people. I'll inform this to mongolian mac users group.

Thanks a lot. I wish it become apple default Mongolian keyboard.

So frustrating!!! Copy/Cut/Paste keyboard shortcut not working after keyboard language is changed. Any fix?
