How to tell if Beats Solo3 are authentic?

I just bought off eBay a refurbished Beats Solo3 for $135 and am wondering if the device is a fake or not. The audio quality certainly sounds like Beats, and I managed to register the serial number on the Beats website. However, the updater cannot pick up the headphones, is it authentic because of the serial number or is there another test I should run?
