Battery for mid 2011 Macbook Air
Need to replace a battery in the subject computer. Any suggestions on what battery to buy, Apple brand? or how much it will cost to get one installed at the genius bar?
thanks!

I'd recommend Apple OEM is possible. As far as I know the main suppliers they use are Simplo and DynaPak. Other than that, it's not that difficult to remove. It's not glued in like with many newer Macs and fairly simple.
Where are you located? I ask because whether or not an Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace that battery is dependent on where you can get it serviced. A 2011 MBA is on the "Vintage" list. Apple's description seems to be that it might be serviced in the United States.

Sure. I ask because there are so many who don't say, and many of the stock answers are meant for people with access to Apple Stores or perhaps are located in the United States. However, the terms they have are rather hard to read. I'm not quite sure what it means that "All Apple Retail Stores.......follow the U.S. product list, but make no distinction between vintage and obsolete."
Vintage products are those that have not been manufactured for more than 5 and less than 7 years ago. Mac, iPhone, iPad, iPod, and Apple TV vintage products continue to receive hardware service from Apple service providers, including Apple Retail Stores, subject to availability of inventory, or as required by law.
Obsolete products are those that were discontinued more than 7 years ago. Monster-branded Beats products are considered obsolete regardless of when they were purchased. Apple has discontinued all hardware service for obsolete products with no exceptions. Service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products. All Apple Retail Stores and the Canadian, European, Latin American, and Asia-Pacific operating regions follow the U.S. product list, but make no distinction between vintage and obsolete. When applied to Apple Retail Stores and these operating regions, products on the U.S. vintage list (all models) are considered obsolete.
I remember the previous version of this list said that Mac products on the Vintage list could be serviced by Apple Authorized Service Providers in California, where 7 years repair parts support is required by law for any product with a written warranty and a wholesale cost over $100. I don't know that they'll say at an Apple Store, but because the wording is really odd. They say "including Apple Retail Stores" but then say that at "Apple Retail Stores" they would consider vintage products to be obsolete.
Good luck.
