I understand you are seeing two indicators that someone is typing in the Messages app on your iPhone. Is this a group message? Is it possible that two members of the group were responding at the same time? It appears that the response did come through. If you were conversing with only one person when this happened, then I would suggest both parties quit Messages and restart the iPhone to refresh it.
